1:15pm | Breakout Sessions Attend one of the following breakout sessions and become part of an ongoing conversation to identify and work on completing one short-term goal and one long-term goal to disrupt human trafficking. These sessions will be led by experts in the field. The results of each session will be presented to the attendees on Thursday morning. Quarterly meetings will be held to track the progress of meeting the identified goals and will be built upon in the 2025 Regional Human Trafficking Summit. |
Option 1: | Survivor Engagement Workgroup 2024 and Beyond Join the ongoing discussion on “meaningful survivor engagement” within the anti-trafficking field. This workshop is aimed to develop short and long-term trauma-informed goals to increase connections with persons with lived experiences to better create, adapt, and modify services when working with folks who have been victimized by human trafficking (exploitation). 9:15am | Addressing Human Trafficking Through Multi-Disciplinary Collaborations in the Criminal Justice and Civil Legal Systems According to the U.S. Department of Justice, responding to human trafficking is most effective when it is executed through a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach. This session will focus on the importance of bringing together local, state, and federal officials as well as community leaders to combat trafficking, seek justice, and support victims in the criminal and civil legal systems. 2:45pm | Three Worlds, One Goal: Recommendations for Combating Trafficking based on insights from Academia, Nonprofits, and Tech Companies
Kwynn Gonzalez-Pons has engaged in anti-trafficking and sexual exploitation work as a case management intern at NCMEC, a researcher in academia, a research associate at the nonprofit Thorn, and as a policy enforcement manager at YouTube. This presentation will discuss her experiences in anti-trafficking work across these sectors, highlighting how, despite similar shared goals, each sector approaches anti-trafficking work in their own way. This work becomes increasingly challenging in the context of regulations, funding, and misinformation. The session will include recommendations to build more opportunities between the sectors in the spirit of supporting a unified goal: to combat human trafficking.
